New Year’s Eve, 2006—twistin’ the night away
(By the way, the dance theme was “Super Heroes,” in case you notice some costumes in the background. I didn’t go as a superhero, though, unless you count Super Cute.)

I used to spend each New Year’s Eve writing in my private journal, reflecting back on each month of the year. It’s not that I had neglected my journal up until the holiday—I had faithfully recorded events as they happened. I just used the holiday to reminisce. (I probably won’t do that this year, but if I did, the highlights would include: a March mission trip to New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina relief, the feeling of God’s Spirit while playing the piano for the Easter sunrise service, a ministry internship over the summer, a June vacation [heaven] to the Gulf of Mexico with my family, a road trip to Hilton Head Island for a friend’s 21st birthday, beginning a challenging job with the fall school year, my first car accident in November, and…who knows what else.)
Those days are gone, though—the days where I would journal to celebrate. Eventually my N.Y.E. plans became more spicy, with the past few years involving dancing up a sweat (but how “spicy” could it be, since these dances took place at a Christian conference?).
One of my favorite memories was born on New Year’s Eve. It was just something simple—a church service at night and a kiss on the cheek. Yet I will never forget the elation. I drove home early in the morning on New Year’s Day, listening to Chicago sing “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day” and pretty much floating on a cloud. …Fortunately I didn’t get hit by any drunk drivers. I do remember there being a lot of police cars out that night.
Tonight I hope to have a combination of the journal writing and sweaty dancing. Then tomorrow I fly out of state to visit my best friend. Let’s hope the pilot isn’t hungover.
Happy New Year’s Eve…one of my favorite days of the year.
I can hardly believe my internet is still working. With 6 inches of snow, winds at 40 mph, and fog, for the life of me I don’t know how this thing works. Today is the first day of 2008. Here are some deeply discerned goals for the future that I am aiming for this year: 1. improve my nutrition. 2. exercise more. 3. I can’t think of anything else. It is 8:30 and I just returned home from my all-night New Years Eve party. I am whipped.
The dance this year was extra spicy. You should have seen Brandon all wrapped up in duct tape and dancing around in his pajama pants. Ow Ow. Did your New Year’s Eve at Maria’s turn out the way you had hoped?
I did notice the name of the villian from Harry Potter in the text of the picture but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to post a picture where the shadow of a ring makes a heart. I thought it was too perfect. When I commented on this post the first time I received an email from your Yahoo account saying you were away. I have not tried emailing your Otterbein account yet. Tomorrow is the 5th, I will then.
I am curious about the new years eve that was one of your favorite memories….
