wedding season

Last night I went to the wedding of two college friends, Chad and Ashley.  This is the first wedding I’ve been invited to as a friend, not as a family member, and the first (traditional) wedding I’ve attended in several years.  The experience offered some ideas on what I want and do not want at [...]

consolation prize

I took my mom to the airport today for her flight(s) to Homer, Alaska.  I loaded her luggage and skis into my backseat and we got into the car.  I was fishing through my purse before turning on the ignition.  I looked up and saw a kid on his bike.  He was looking over his [...]

There’s Dad!

This is Kachemak Bay, upon which Homer sits.  Kachemak supposedly means (in Yupik) “large cliff by the water.”
Dad and Charles made it safely to the new parsonage and unloaded the moving truck last night.  (They’ve spent the last few days near our new town, but not in it, choosing instead to camp and fish.)

dreams
1. Someday I’d like to record the 1,037-page book Gone with the Wind for its release on audio CD.  As far as I can tell, it’s only available on audio cassette, and I want to usher GWTW into the 21st century.  I do a pretty good impression of Belle Watling, but the rest of the [...]

My dad and brother are driving to Alaska, in a moving truck, as I type this…and they’ve been driving there since Saturday, June 14.  They still have a couple days left in their journey.  Montana alone took them an entire day.  Here are some of the photos they’ve taken along their beautiful drive:

North Dakota:

My relationship to Cheerios has been one of the strongest and longest relationships of my life.  We’re going on 21-22 years now, depending on how old I was when I started eating solid foods.  I eat a bowl of Cheerios at least once a day, often twice.  I eat them dry, with a cup of [...]

I graduated from college today.  I now have a Bachelor of Arts degree.  I majored in English (concentration in creative writing) and minored in religion.  And now it’s over.
The most meaningful part of the ceremony involved two people I didn’t even know.  There were two classmates who died during our college career.  One guy died [...]

changes

I graduate from college not tomorrow but the next day.
My dad and brother won’t be able to attend the ceremony after all, because they’ll be starting the drive to Alaska early.
I won’t see my dad for over six months.  (Then, when Mom flies up, I won’t see her for exactly six months.)
I’ll temporarily move to [...]

the present

It’s summer!  The quarter is over (sad), residents have vacated the building (lonely), and graduation is only four days away (depressed).  But it’s summer!  My friends introduced me to a beach only a few minutes from campus, and for the past four years I had no idea it existed.  It’s free, the water’s refreshing, and [...]

Remember when I got super-pumped to find out my face would be on a READ poster in our campus library?  (See entry here.)  The READ poster has arrived!  Here’s the proof!

Unfortunately, they spelled my name wrong.  They’re going to fix it, though.
I’m famous!  My prayer is that everyone who passes by this poster will go [...]
