from p. 174 of Maggie-Now, copyright 1948, set around 1910:
She sat apart from the rest on the low stool. Claude’s eyes roved over the others but always came back to rest on her. She wore a plainly made, russet-colored dress. It was high in the neck and had long sleeves and a full skirt. [...]

Today at the laundromat, I remembered why I don’t want kids. Or at least…I don’t want kids that cry. Some kids kept screaming at the top of their lungs, drowning out the whir of the washing machines. I believe it was more than one kid. The sound reminded me of when I was at an airport [...]

Tonight I went to a showing of Hairspray at a park. It was like a drive-in, only instead of sitting in cars people sat in lawn chairs or on blankets. When it came time for the duet between John Travolta and Christopher Walken, one man stood up (without blocking anyone’s view) while holding his baby daughter. He [...]

meet with people who come into the food pantry and record their orders
fill people’s orders in the food pantry (with canned goods, boxed dinners, snacks, etc.)
interview someone for a member [...]

I was trying to make macaroni and cheese. I unwrapped some margarine, set it in a mug, and stuck it in the microwave to soften. The microwave started sparking. I opened the door, checked for any stray foil or wrapping, and closed the door again. Soon the microwave resumed its sparking. Then to my dismay, [...]

Who says I’ll be lonely living in Salt Lake City all by myself, with my boyfriend 1,723 miles away and my parents 3,242 miles away? Pish-posh! I have already made a new friend:
I don’t know where my friend comes from, but my friend has given me the lovin’ I needed.
