just you and me

To write a diary, I have thought of very often at far and near distances of time: but how could I write a diary without throwing upon paper my thoughts, all my thoughts – the thoughts of my heart as well as of my head? – & then how could I bear to look on [...]

protest yesterday

We had over 50 people attend our protest over Medicaid cuts.  Several people testified in the governor’s office, with impassioned pleas and voices breaking.  I hope it makes a difference.

new bike!

Thanks to the very kind volunteering of my new friend Bryce, and my own volunteering, I have acquired a bike.  The Salt Lake City Bike Collective (an awesome nonprofit) lets you volunteer at their shop to help “earn” a bike.  So Bryce and I spent two evenings stripping bikes and attempting to repair bikes.  We [...]

20 years of snow falling

Taken tonight, on my block:

and everything in time, and under heaven
finally falls asleep
wrapped in blankets white, all creation
shivers underneath
and still I notice You
when branches crack

MY GOALS FOR 2009:
1.    Climb Mount Olympus in Salt Lake City, perhaps also Mount Timpanogos.
2.    Don’t spend work time sending non-work-related e-mails.
3.    Live for God.
4.    Watch the entire series of The West Wing.
5.    Be nice to people even when they annoy me.
6.    Learn to use double-pointed needles in my knitting.

two weeks ago…

I wish I could relive many of the moments on my Christmas visit to my parents’ home in Homer, Alaska, just two weeks ago.
Mom and me at a scenic overlook.  I love this picture—it captures her natural beauty

Dad and me making chocolate chip cookies.  I’d give anything to be headed downstairs for another [...]
