I dogsit and housesit for free. That’s how much I love doggies. (I do require that the dogowner lets me eat anything I want, though.) This past week I got to know Copper, a lovable Australian Shepherd who likes to lick everything in sight…including your armpit if you’re in a sleeveless shirt.
It was pretty random. Copper’s owner was volunteering at our food pantry, like usual. I just happened to mention: “If you and your wife ever go out of town and you need someone to watch Copper, I don’t charge anything—it’s just my pleasure.” He said, “Well…we’re going to Boston tomorrow.”
Score!
Here’s Copper going in for the kill:

I like that he stretches out with his legs behind him, like my own doggy does:

He also only has a stub of a tail, like my doggy does.

Oh, Kate…how I miss you so. I get to see Kate later this month, for the first time in almost a year. (I guess I should mention I get to see my brothers for the first time in almost a year too.) Charles was telling me about a new game he plays with Kate. She leaves the room, and he hides in the closet. Then she comes back and wonders if he left the house without her realizing it. Her toenails clack all over the floor, faster and faster, as she grows increasingly concerned. He has even been standing in the closet and she has looked in there for him, but doesn’t look on both sides, and backs out to search somewhere else. It sounds like a lot of fun and it kind of makes me pity Charles for living alone and not having any friends.
Oh, Katie Scarlett. She looks like a model in that picture. I like your Elmo feet.
I was just thinking of Kate today and wondered if we should ask Jon whether or not we can dog sit her during the week we are there (since CM III works during the day and she is kept in the garage.) I don’t know…maybe it might be too much with the extra “people” in the house.
Sarah: Copper, you’re my best friend.
Copper: And you’re mine too, Sarah.
Sarah: And we’ll always be friends forever. Won’t we?
Copper: Yeah, forever.
Copper just goes crazy with Sarah
He just loves her and likes to be in her presence, even at Crossroads office. Thanks Sarah for dogsitting. If you need a partner to go hiking, Copper loves taking walks.
Can Kate smell? I would think if a dog stuck its nose in one end of a closet, it would be close enough to smell the person it’s seeking at the other end of the closet.
Isn’t that a clever display of the different uses of “its” and “it’s”? (Benjamin narrowly avoids straining his tricep as he pats himself on the back.) *grin*
