Last night Eddy and I went to a silent film showing of Lucky Star.  The film is accompanied by a live organist at this reception hall in Salt Lake City:

The movie plays on a screen above the organ, and the organist just goes with it.  He does all sorts of sound effects in addition to [...]

This little ladybug is lonely.

Whoa.  What’s going on?

Rated R!

It must be mating season.

Tackle.

Thus ends our Kama Sutra of ladybugs.
This week in The Upper Room devotions, an autistic author wrote about how, in Native American religions, ladybugs symbolize trust in the Great Spirit.  William Stillman writes, “The ladybug encourages people to release their frustration and anxiety, and to [...]

projectile pooping

So, the first morning I had Bun-Bun, I noticed a poop pellet outside his cage.  How did it get there?  Did he push his rump up against the cage, and aim the poop outside?  What a remarkable feat.
The second morning I had Bun-Bun, I noticed a poop pellet stuck on the wall above his cage.  How [...]

For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, [...]

unarguably…

I usually prefer Colbert to Stewart, but when I watch recent clips of The Daily Show, I gotta admire the research these writers do.  They catch all kinds of contradictions and (to use a term from last election) flip-flopping.  If it’s on tape, you can’t escape.  Look at this clip:

awwwww…how cute

Tonight I went to a showing of Hairspray at a park.  It was like a drive-in, only instead of sitting in cars people sat in lawn chairs or on blankets.  When it came time for the duet between John Travolta and Christopher Walken, one man stood up (without blocking anyone’s view) while holding his baby daughter.  He [...]

Here are some views of my new apartment, my humble abode for the next two years.  I really like the way I’ve decorated it…especially the living room bookshelf.  Oh, bookshelves.
The foyer area is big enough to be an office, so that’s what I made it into:

The kitchen:

That is my new tablecloth and I think it’s cute.

The living room:

And [...]

fire!

I was trying to make macaroni and cheese.  I unwrapped some margarine, set it in a mug, and stuck it in the microwave to soften.  The microwave started sparking.  I opened the door, checked for any stray foil or wrapping, and closed the door again.  Soon the microwave resumed its sparking.  Then to my dismay, [...]

My opinion of New York City changes day by day….  It’s hard to form one opinion when the Manhattan burough alone can contain 5th Avenue and Times Square…as well as Harlem and Chinatown.  This morning the 9 missionaries were sent out in groups to do community mapping of various parts of Manhattan.  My group was [...]
